Keaton Wagler is 19, a rookie and already one of the Clippers' main scorers, with 15.0 points a night and a 24.8% usage rate. His 58.1% true shooting is strong, but it rests on free throws and threes while his 31.6% field goal mark shows how much he misses everywhere else.

The Clippers are asking a rookie to carry real offensive weight.
With Brandon Ingram, Bradley Beal and Max Strus all Out with an estimated return of Nov. 8, Wagler has moved close to the center of the offense. He plays 26.5 minutes a night and scores 15.0 points, second on the team behind Darius Garland's 21.5. His 24.8% usage rate and 21.5% assist rate put him in a creator's role, not a spot-up role. Against the Lakers on Oct. 28 he came off the bench and led the Clippers with 21, scored eight of their fourth-quarter points and was on the floor for the final five minutes.
His efficiency comes from the line and the arc, not the floor in between.
Wagler shoots 39.1% on 5.8 three-point attempts a game and 87.1% at the line, and those two numbers lift his true shooting to 58.1%. His overall field goal mark is 31.6%, which means the misses are piling up inside the arc. The Lakers game showed the pattern: 4-for-15 from the field, 3-for-8 from three and 10-for-12 at the line. That works as a scoring formula for now. It is fragile on nights when the whistle goes quiet.
The ball security has to catch up with the usage.
He averages 3.0 turnovers a game against 3.5 assists, and he gave it away three times against the Lakers. On a team whose offensive rating sits at 104.9, possessions are scarce, and Garland already has a turnover problem of his own, which Clipperholics has written about. Wagler's 1.3 steals and 4.3 rebounds show he competes on the other end, and his 103.5 defensive rating is the better half of a 1.8 net rating.
The contract gives the Clippers time, but the lineup gives him none.
Wagler earns $9.7M this season, rising to $13.5M in 2029-30. That is cost certainty for a franchise with forfeited 2029 and 2030 firsts and little room to buy help. The verdict: until Nov. 8 he needs to be a reliable second scorer next to Garland, which means turning some of those inside misses into made shots or kickouts. Minnesota, without Anthony Edwards on Oct. 30, is a fair test of whether he can do it.
