Warriors Enter 2026-27 With Butler and Moody Out Until December
newsroom · 3 h agoGolden State is 0-0 with the regular season still two weeks off, and two rotation pieces, Jimmy Butler III and Moses Moody, are out with knee injuries with an estimated return of December 1. The roster is largely the same group that went 37-45 last season, minus Pat Spencer and Quinten Post. Preseason starts October 4 at the Clippers, and the regular-season opener is October 21 at the Lakers on ESPN.
The Roster
Golden State keeps its core intact heading into 2026-27. Stephen Curry, 38 and in his 17th season, is still the engine, backed by his brother Seth Curry, 36 and in year 13. Jimmy Butler III, 36, enters year 15. Draymond Green, 36, is in year 14, and Al Horford, 40, brings 19 years of experience off the bench. The younger group includes Brandin Podziemski, 23, in year 3, Moses Moody, 24, in year 5, and Kristaps Porziņģis, 31, in year 11. Rookies Lajae Jones and Yaxel Lendeborg round out the roster. Two departures since last season: Pat Spencer, now with the Suns, and Quinten Post, now with the Grizzlies.
Last Season by the Numbers
Golden State finished 2025-26 at 37-45. The offense ran at 113.8 points per 100 possessions and the defense allowed 114.4, a net rating of -0.5, at a pace of 100.0. The team shot 54.9 effective field-goal percentage and posted a 58.4 true shooting mark, scoring 114.6 points per game. Butler led the scoring at 20.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists over 38 games. Curry averaged 26.6 points and shot 39.3 percent from three in 43 games. Podziemski was the iron man of the group, playing all 82 games for 13.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists. Green added 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists across 68 games, and Porziņģis put up 16.7 points and 5.2 rebounds in 32 games.
Injury Report
Two Warriors are out to start the year. Jimmy Butler III is dealing with a right knee and leg issue, with an estimated return date of December 1. Moses Moody is out with a left knee and leg injury, also with an estimated return of December 1. Both were regular contributors last season, Butler averaging 20.0 points in 38 games and Moody averaging 12.1 points on 40.1 percent three-point shooting in 60 games. Their absences will shape the rotation for the first six weeks of the season, with Golden State needing production from Podziemski, Porziņģis, Curry and the rest of the roster to cover the minutes until both return.

Preseason opens October 4 on the road against the Clippers, followed by home games against the Lakers on October 6 and a return trip to Los Angeles to face the Clippers again on October 7.
