Every outlet covering Atlanta is on the same story: a 128-81 rout in Charlotte, which Locked On Hawks called a franchise-record margin. The box score backs the dominance, but it also shows a short-handed Hornets team and a Hawks rotation thinner than the score suggests.

A record margin, with context
Brad Rowland of Locked On Hawks reported the 47-point win as a franchise record, built on 27 forced turnovers and 37 assists. The box score fits: Atlanta's biggest lead reached 49 and the Hornets never led. Rowland's pregame report also had Knueppel and White among the Hornets who were out, and ESPN pointed out that Charlotte was playing at home without LaMelo Ball. Brandon Miller shot 2-14, which says as much about the opponent's night as Atlanta's. The record is real. What it proves about this team is smaller than the number.
Daniels and the defensive pitch
Soaring Down South argued that Dyson Daniels' most underrated skill set the early tone, and Peachtree Hoops pointed to defensive potential. Atlanta's own numbers support the defensive half of that: Daniels had 7 steals and 9 rebounds and finished plus-32 in 24 minutes. They do not settle anything about his shooting. He went 0-1 from three here, after hitting 18.8 percent last season. One night of havoc is a strong opening argument, not a verdict.
Thin bench meets Houston
Rowland noted that no two-way players were active, that the guard depth was shallow, and that Corey Kispert was the first player outside the top nine to see the floor. Kispert answered with 11 points on 4-5 shooting in 10 minutes. Rowland also relayed the team's word that Jock Landale has a nasal fracture but was available. Gueye and Veesaar remain out. ESPN's preview frames tonight as a matchup with Houston, which arrives 2-0 with Reed Sheppard day-to-day. That is a sturdier test of the rotation than Charlotte was, and the rematch comes Oct. 26 in Houston.
