The Knicks are 0-3 and their second unit is the thinnest part of the roster. Jordan Clarkson, 34, has barely played, and his small numbers say more about opportunity than ability.
The Hole
Look at the Orlando box score. Starters put up 91 points. The bench added 7. Brunson shot 12-of-28, Bridges finished minus-23, and nobody off the pine changed the game. At 0-3 and 13th in the East, the Knicks cannot keep asking five men to carry everything.
The Line
Clarkson is a 34-year-old guard in his 12th season, wearing 00 on a $2.4M deal for 2026-27. He has played three games at 5.5 minutes a night. That is 1.3 points, 1.0 rebound and 0.3 assists. He shoots 40.0 percent from the field, 0.0 percent from three on 0.3 attempts a game, and 0.0 percent at the line. Usage sits at 11.1 percent. True shooting is 40.0 percent. Those are the numbers of a man who has barely touched the ball.
Fool's Gold
His advanced page looks like a typo. Offensive rating 117.1, defensive rating 80.6, net rating 36.6. Ignore it. Three games at 5.5 minutes is roughly 16 minutes of basketball. No lineup data exists for him. Nobody should build a case on that.
The Fit
The guard room is crowded and shaky. Jose Alvarado is out with an ankle problem, with a return estimated for Tuesday. Miles McBride averages 8.0 points and has hit 58.3 percent from three. Landry Shamet averages 6.3. Tyler Kolek has one game on the ledger and Dalton Knecht just arrived. Clarkson is healthy and off the injury report. Detroit, 3-0, comes in Tuesday without Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson, so this is a night to find minutes for a scorer.
Bottom Line
Clarkson does not need to be a star. He needs to be a bench scorer who gives Mike Brown ten honest minutes and takes pressure off Brunson. Anything near the 1.3 points he has shown means the Knicks look elsewhere. Make him matter now, or the question of why he is on the roster comes next.
