Tobias Harris went from Out to Day-To-Day on October 21, and his projected return date is October 23, when Houston visits. San Antonio is 0-1 after losing 116-104 to Oklahoma City and plays the Rockets and the Mavericks on consecutive nights.
Will Tobias Harris play against the Rockets?
He has a real chance. On October 21 his calf injury was downgraded from Out to Day-To-Day, and October 23 is the date set for his return. That is the night Houston comes to town. Nothing else has been posted about him. Last season Harris scored 13.3 points a game in 27.7 minutes and made 36.8 percent of his threes. The opener had little steady scoring like that.
How much did the bench cost them against Oklahoma City?
Plenty. The starters scored 75 of the 104 points and the bench scored 25. Julian Champagnie had three blocks and two steals but finished minus-24 in 30 minutes. Keldon Johnson was minus-12 in 20 minutes and Luke Kornet minus-10 in 13. Off the Thunder bench, Jared McCain made 6 of 8 threes. Ty Small of Air Alamo argued that this scoring drought is where Harris can add value.
Should the three-guard lineup stay?
It's unclear. Jahlil Williams of Air Alamo wrote that the three-guard look gave the Thunder a way to take Victor Wembanyama out of the game. Wembanyama went 1 for 13 from the field. The guards themselves played well: Stephon Castle scored 24, Dylan Harper had 18 points and 5 assists, and De'Aaron Fox went 6 for 9 with 7 assists. A healthy Harris gives Mitch Johnson a bigger alternative to try.
What does the next week ask of this group?
Two games in two nights first. Houston visits on October 23 on Prime Video, and the Spurs play at Dallas on October 24. Sacramento comes in on October 27 and Utah hosts them on October 28. The team will have had three days off since the opener, so the first night should be fine. The second night will test the bench, which struggled in the first game.
Is Tobias Harris playing for the Spurs against the Rockets?
Harris is listed as Day-To-Day with a calf injury, and October 23 against Houston is his projected return date. His status had been upgraded from Out on October 21.
When do the Spurs play next?
The Spurs host the Rockets on October 23 on Prime Video, then play at the Mavericks on October 24.
