JULIAN Champagnie

Last season, 2025-26, Champagnie played all 82 games for San Antonio. He averaged 27.6 minutes, 11.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists, with 0.8 steals, 0.5 blocks and 0.8 turnovers. The shooting line was 43.7 percent from the field, 38.1 percent from three and 84.4 percent from the line, which added up to a 60.9 true shooting percentage. His usage rate sat at 14.6, so he was not a high-volume scorer. He did his work as a low-mistake shooter who stayed on the floor. His plus-minus of 7.2 last season stood out for a player with that usage. Those are last season's numbers, not this season's, but they frame what the Spurs expect from him: durability, spacing and clean possessions.

Champagnie has had an uneven start to the 2026-27 slate. He opened October 8 against Atlanta with 10 points, 0 rebounds and 1 assist in 18.5 minutes in a loss. On October 10 against Phoenix he put up 10 points, 1 rebound and 2 assists in 24.7 minutes, another loss. His best scoring night came October 12 against Utah, 14 points and 4 rebounds in 25.7 minutes, but the Spurs lost that one too. Then came the rest day on October 14, the 9-point effort in the Sacramento win on October 16, and the 8 points against Oklahoma City on October 20. His rebounding has been lighter than last season's 5.8 per game, with 0, 1, 4, 4 and 3 boards across the five games he played.

Champagnie's last four games before this month all came against New York in June. On June 5 he played 36.0 minutes and scored 8 points with 4 rebounds and 1 assist in a loss. On June 8 the Spurs won, with Champagnie adding 12 points, 1 rebound and 3 assists in 26.7 minutes at +8.0. June 10 was a loss in which he had 5 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists in 33.0 minutes. The June 13 game was another loss, but he produced 14 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist in 30.7 minutes. Across those four games he was on the floor for 26.7 to 36.0 minutes a night, heavier than his 27.6-minute average last season, which says something about how much the Spurs leaned on him in that stretch.

Champagnie's name has come up in two recent notebooks. On October 4, Tom Orsborn's Spurs Notes mentioned Champagnie alongside Barnes, the starters, Donovan and Bryant, which puts him in the rotation conversation as the team sorted out its lineup before the season. On October 10, Jared Weiss published Southwest Notes covering Harper, the Spurs, Vassell, VanVleet and the Mavs. Champagnie was not named in the Weiss piece. Neither report describes any move involving Champagnie. These are notes and reporting, not transactions, and nothing in them changes his status as a Spurs forward on the active roster.
