How did the Spurs lose a game they kept this close?

They spent the night chasing. Houston took the opening quarter 32-27 and pushed its lead as high as 11. San Antonio won the second 32-29 and trailed only 61-59 at the half. The third went back to Houston, and Amen Thompson's bank shot made it 80-72 late in the period. The Spurs kept answering but never got in front long enough to make the Rockets react.

Who decided it for Houston?

Sengun did. His 29 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists made him the best player on the floor, and San Antonio had no answer for him in the middle. Kevin Durant was 8-for-8 at the line through the late third, and Fred VanVleet had three steals without a turnover over the same stretch. Wembanyama's 25 and 13 kept the Spurs in range, but it was a one-man answer to a three-man problem.

How do the guards grade?

Through the late third: Dylan Harper, B. He went 4-for-11 for 9 points but had the team's best plus-minus at +8 in 25 minutes, with no turnovers. Devin Vassell, B-minus: +5, and his running three cut it to 78-72. De'Aaron Fox, D. He shot 5-for-8 but had 5 turnovers and finished -14 in 19 minutes. Stephon Castle, C-minus: 3-for-9, -8, though he had 5 assists and no turnovers.

Where was the bench?

Mostly missing. Through the late third the starters had 58 points and the bench had 9. Keldon Johnson scored 6 in 11 minutes at -6, and Luke Kornet added 5 in 8. Air Alamo's Cal Durrett wrote that Johnson is becoming the odd man out after a rotation change, and this game did nothing to argue against it. Tobias Harris, out with his calf, has an estimated return date of today.

What does 0-2 mean with Dallas next?

Two games is not much to judge by. San Antonio is 14th in the West, half a game behind Denver for 10th and a game and a half behind the Lakers for 6th, with 80 games left. The two losses came by a combined 16 points. Dallas is 1-1 and will be without Cooper Flagg (shoulder) and Dereck Lively II (foot). Santi Aldama, Caleb Martin, Jett Howard and Tarik Biberovic are all uncertain. Sacramento visits October 27.

The verdictThis was a close loss that came down to small things: turnovers from the lead guard, too little from the bench and no answer for Sengun. Those can be fixed, and a short-handed Dallas team tonight is the place to start.
What was the final score of Spurs vs. Rockets on October 23, 2026?

The Rockets won 114-110. Alperen Sengun led Houston with 29 points, and Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 25 points and 13 rebounds.

What is the Spurs' record after the Rockets game?

The Spurs are 0-2 and 14th in the West, after losing to Oklahoma City 116-104 and Houston 114-110. Their next game is tonight at Dallas.
