Dennis is day-to-day with a right Achilles injury after Atlanta's Sunday injury report. He was already ruled out of Saturday's Summer League game against the Wizards because of the issue, and the report lists an expected return date of Oct. 1.

What happened

Atlanta listed Dennis, a 25-year-old guard, as day-to-day with a right Achilles injury in Sunday's 4:32 a.m. ET report. His previous status is not announced. Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reported that Dennis was ruled out for Saturday's Summer League game against the Wizards because of the Achilles issue. The report lists an expected return date of Oct. 1.

What it means for the Hawks

Atlanta's next game is Oct. 5 against the Grizzlies. The Hawks have not played a regular-season game yet this season, so there is no record to report with or without Dennis on the floor. Last season he averaged 4.4 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 12.1 minutes across 17 games. If he is out, Atlanta's backcourt minutes lean on Trae Young (28.0 minutes, 19.3 points), CJ McCollum (28.8 minutes, 18.7 points) and Dyson Daniels (33.2 minutes, 11.9 points), based on last season's box scores.

What to watch

The Hawks are expected to update Dennis's status in a subsequent injury report before the Oct. 5 game against the Grizzlies. He has an expected return date of Oct. 1, four days before that matchup. Mouhamed Gueye (foot) and Keshon Gilbert (hip) are also listed as day-to-day on the same report, so Atlanta's injury list extends beyond Dennis.
