Mitchell Robinson will sit out Boston's preseason game against Philadelphia on Friday with a day-to-day rest designation. The Celtics will lean on their other bigs in the frontcourt rotation with Robinson out of the lineup.
What happened
The Celtics listed Mitchell Robinson as day-to-day with a rest designation on the Friday, Oct. 16 injury report, issued at 7:15 PM ET. His previous status is not announced. Robinson will not play in Friday's preseason game against the 76ers, Sean Grande of NBC Sports Boston reports. The report lists the issue simply as rest, not an injury. Earlier in camp, Robinson was day-to-day with an undisclosed issue on Oct. 8 before being cleared on Oct. 10.
What it means for the Celtics
Boston plays at Philadelphia on Friday at 7:00 PM ET on NBA TV. Last season Robinson averaged 5.7 points and 8.8 rebounds in 19.6 minutes across 60 games, and that rebounding and rim presence is what the Celtics are without on Friday. With Robinson out, frontcourt minutes shift to Neemias Queta, who has logged 25.3 minutes and 10.2 points, and Nikola Vucevic, who has played 21.1 minutes and scored 9.7 points. The Celtics are 0-0 since the 2026-27 season has not started, and there is no regular-season record yet with or without Robinson on the floor.
What to watch
The Celtics will update Robinson's status on their next injury report. His expected return is listed as Oct. 20. Boston's Friday report also carries Baylor Scheierman, Sam Hauser, Paul George, Payton Pritchard, Mike Conley, Derrick White, Jayson Tatum and Devin Carter, all day-to-day, as the team manages its roster through the final days of the preseason.
