Suggs' bone bruise puts Black at the center of Orlando's guard plan

Suggs gets re-checked in two weeks, so Orlando has to rebuild its guard minutes before Wednesday in Toronto.

Jalen Suggs has a mild bone bruise from Sunday's win in New York and will be re-evaluated in two weeks, the Orlando Sentinel reported, citing the team. Orlando is 1-2 and 10th, and it starts a two-game set in Toronto on Wednesday with Anthony Black as the first answer.

Suggs has a bruise, not a tear.

The Sentinel and Rookie Wire both reported that an MRI found a mild bone bruise and no other structural damage. ESPN reported he will miss at least two weeks. Orlando's injury list projects him back Nov. 10, so he misses both Toronto games, Boston on Nov. 1 and Washington on Nov. 2. His shot had already gone cold, at 37.2% true shooting over his last five games. Still, he was part of the closing five that erased a 10-point deficit.

Black has earned the first look.

Black was cleared on Oct. 25 and played like it. He scored 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting, made 5 of 7 threes, had five assists and no turnovers, and posted a team-best +21 in 26 minutes. He also fouled out with 14 seconds left. Staying in the game through heavier minutes is the next step he has to take.

The second unit won Sunday, and it has to keep doing it.

Reserves scored 47 of Orlando's 111 points. Da Silva hit 5 of 9 threes for 19 points and was +20. Wagner scored 21 of his 23 in the final period, when Orlando outscored New York 40-27. The weak spot is Jase Richardson, who was -22 in 17 minutes. With Suggs out, more guard minutes fall to him.

Two games in Toronto are a chance to settle the rotation.

Orlando plays at the Raptors Wednesday and again Friday in an Emirates NBA Cup game, then hosts Boston and Washington on back-to-back nights. Isaac's projected return is Oct. 28. Banchero's is Nov. 22. At 1-2, Orlando sits one game behind sixth-place Cleveland. The open question is whether Black and Richardson can hold the guard spots for two weeks without losing what this team found in New York.

When will Jalen Suggs return for the Magic?

The team said he will be re-evaluated in two weeks, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Orlando's injury list projects him back Nov. 10.

Who replaces Jalen Suggs in the Magic rotation?

Anthony Black is the likeliest answer after scoring 18 points with a +21 in New York. Jase Richardson and Jevon Carter are the other guards on the roster.
