The Walter Clayton Jr. reports are history, since he is on the roster and played against San Antonio. The Cooper Flagg shoulder item is the only open report that moves the lineup, and the payroll leaves just $2.5M of room under the tax line for anything else.

Clayton: credible and done
Marc Stein reported on Oct. 20 that Dallas was considered likely to sign Walter Clayton Jr., a report scored at 74. A day later Hoops Rumors passed along that Clayton agreed to a two-way deal, scored at 41 and still marked open. The score on the second item is soft, but the outcome is not. Clayton wears No. 4, played 15 minutes against the Spurs and took the final shot of the game. Treat this one as closed.
Flagg is the live report
Hoops Rumors reported on Oct. 24 that Flagg gets another look next week. That item sits at 52 and is open. ESPN's Tim MacMahon reported that he sat out the home opener with a mild left shoulder sprain. The roster lists Nov. 2 as the target, the Kings game. That is a projection, not a clearance. Before it arrive the Heat, the Thunder and the Rockets, and Dallas has already shown what the fourth quarter looks like without him: a 17-point quarter and a 16-point loss.
What the cap sheet allows
The G League draft item scored 44 and has nothing to do with the rotation, so ignore it. As for real moves, Dallas carries $197.9M against a $200.4M tax line. Irving's $39.5M is the largest number, followed by Washington at $19.8M. Any addition has to fit inside that $2.5M cushion. The pick cupboard is thin too: the 2027 first is protected to Charlotte, and the 2028, 2029 and 2030 firsts are swaps. A blockbuster built on the current books is not a credible rumor. A modest depth move is the only kind this sheet can hold.
Is Cooper Flagg playing against the Heat?
Flagg is listed out, and the roster shows Nov. 2 as the target. Hoops Rumors reported he will be looked at again next week, so the Miami game on Oct. 26 is not the one to expect him.
Can the Mavericks afford a trade right now?
Only a small one. Payroll is $197.9M, over the cap but $2.5M below the $200.4M tax line.
