Booker sets the tone. Booker went 17-of-25 for 43 points with seven rebounds and seven assists. The Suns' own account called it the most points by a Sun in a home opener in franchise history. He also had four turnovers in 37 minutes.

Bench carried the margin. Collin Gillespie finished plus-16 with nine assists, Luke Kennard plus-15 in 18 minutes, Jordan Goodwin plus-13. Jalen Green was minus-16 in 26 minutes. Starters scored 95 points and the bench 36, but the second unit owned the minutes that decided it.

Thunder on a short turn. Oklahoma City is 2-0 after a 64-18 season with an 11.1 net rating. The Thunder are on a back-to-back, and Otega Oweh, Nikola Topic and Thomas Sorber are all out. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 31.1 points last season.

Health check. Kennard was cleared Saturday. Oso Ighodaro was listed out with an oblique issue, though the injury list shows Oct. 26 as his target date. Mark Williams is still sidelined with a shoulder problem and is not due back until Feb. 3.

The question on defense. A shorthanded Warriors team still scored 122. Yaxel Lendeborg hit six threes for 26 points, and De'Anthony Melton added 25 off the bench. If Golden State's thin group found that much room, Phoenix has to explain how it holds a deeper Oklahoma City group.

On deck Phoenix plays at the Thunder on Oct. 26, then hosts Denver on Oct. 30 in an Emirates NBA Cup game. A trip to Golden State follows on Nov. 2.
