Through the first stretch of the 2026-27 season, Goodwin's minutes have been modest. He played 14.0 minutes in a loss to Utah on October 16, scoring 10 points with 4 rebounds and 2 assists and a plus-minus of 6.0. Two nights earlier, in a loss to San Antonio on October 14, he had 0 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in 13.7 minutes with a minus-13.0 plus-minus. He found his footing in a win over San Antonio on October 10, scoring 8 points with 2 rebounds in 16.9 minutes. Against Chicago on October 7 he had 5 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists in 15.9 minutes in a loss, and against Detroit on October 5 he scored 7 points with 6 rebounds in 11.3 minutes, also in a loss. Phoenix has leaned on him for bench minutes in the mid-teens most nights so far.

Last season, Goodwin played in 70 games for Phoenix, averaging 22.5 minutes, 8.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.2 blocks, with 1.0 turnovers. He shot 41.3 percent from the field, 37.1 percent from three and 69.6 percent from the free-throw line, with a true shooting mark of 52.5 percent. Those numbers describe a rotation guard who can space the floor better than his reputation suggests, while still doing most of his work defensively and on the glass for his position. The 1.5 steals per game stands out as a sign of his activity level on that end of the floor.

At 6-3 and 215 pounds, he has the frame to guard up a position when Phoenix needs it, which has made him a useful piece regardless of his minutes total on a given night.
