Keegan Murray landed on the Kings' first injury report of the 2026-27 preseason, listed day-to-day with a left ankle issue. The report lists an expected return of Oct. 1, four days before Sacramento's opener.

What happened

The Kings listed Murray as day-to-day on their injury report Sunday, Sept. 6, at 4:32 a.m. ET, citing an ankle issue in his left leg. He had not previously appeared on a Sacramento injury report this preseason. Kings beat writer Chris Watkins reported that Murray is projected to start at power forward for the Kings in 2026-27. The report lists an expected return date of Oct. 1.

What it means for the Kings

Sacramento opens the season Oct. 5 at home against the Lakers, and an Oct. 1 target return would have Murray ready in time. Last season he averaged 14.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 34.5 minutes across 23 games. If he is out for any stretch, the frontcourt workload would lean more on Domantas Sabonis, himself day-to-day with a left knee issue, along with Maxime Raynaud and De'Andre Hunter, who is also day-to-day with a left eye issue. The 2026-27 season has not started, so Sacramento has no games played with or without Murray yet.

What to watch

The Kings' next injury report will show whether Murray's ankle has progressed toward his Oct. 1 target, which falls four days before the opener against the Lakers. Sacramento is also tracking Sabonis, Zach LaVine and Hunter, all day-to-day entering camp. No word yet on whether Murray will be limited in practice or preseason games before Oct. 5.
