Kasparas Jakucionis at 20: Efficient Enough, Now He Has to Hold Up

The second-year guard from the Miami deal scores well on his few shots. His minutes have not gone well.

By the Bucks Nightly Desk · Thursday, October 29

Kasparas Jakucionis has made the most of a small share of the offense while running a meaningful share of the passing. The numbers say his touch is real and his time on the floor has hurt Milwaukee, and closing that gap is his job this season.

Last season

Over five games he averaged 9.0 points, 4.2 assists and 2.8 boards in 22.7 minutes, making half his shots and 88.9 percent at the line. His true shooting sat at 66.3 percent, excellent for a guard his age. The weak spot was the three: 23.1 percent on 2.6 tries a night. He turned it over twice a game and logged 0.8 steals.

June 23

He came over from Miami in the deal that sent Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis south, part of a return built around Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kel'el Ware. That trade still sets the terms for how this roster gets judged, and Jakucionis, at 20, is the piece whose value lies furthest down the road.

The advanced picture

His usage was 15.2 percent, so the ball often moves through him without ending in his hands, and his 26.3 percent assist rate fits a guard who sets others up. The trouble is on the scoreboard. Milwaukee posted a 102.7 offensive rating and a 120.9 defensive rating with him on the floor, a net of minus-18.2, well below the team's minus-10.6.

October 28

Houston's 132-100 win put the issue in plain view. Jakucionis played 19 minutes and finished minus-18, among the three worst marks on the roster that night, alongside Ware at minus-31 and Brayden Burries at minus-18. Taylor Jenkins had no lineup that held up, but the young guard's minutes were among the costliest.

October 31

Cleveland comes to Fiserv Forum next, and he is not on the injury report. His deal runs $3.8 million this year, $4.0 million in 2027-28 and $6.2 million in 2028-29, cheap money on a sheet carrying $191.4 million. Milwaukee can afford patience with him. It cannot keep giving up eighteen points every forty-eight minutes he plays.

Next The Bucks host the Cavaliers on October 31, then visit Minnesota on November 2.
How did Kasparas Jakucionis end up with the Bucks?

Milwaukee got him from Miami on June 23 in the trade that sent Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to the Heat. Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kel'el Ware came to Milwaukee in the same deal.

What is Kasparas Jakucionis's contract with Milwaukee?

He makes $3.8 million in 2026-27, $4.0 million in 2027-28 and $6.2 million in 2028-29. That makes him one of the cheaper rotation players on the roster.
