Toronto is 2-0 and third, and the transaction wire has been busy anyway. Sorting settled news from noise starts with Nate Bittle, then moves to the contract talk that has not.

What Is Settled
Blake Murphy reported October 17 that Toronto converted Nate Bittle to a two-way contract and waived five players. That item is marked confirmed, and Tyreke Key, Tyson Degenhart, Jalen Celestine, Nimari Burnett and Jamarion Sharp were gone by October 18. Jason Beede's October 5 roster-moves item is also confirmed. Bittle himself is listed out with a right foot and leg problem and is projected back October 28. Two earlier items stayed open. Murphy's October 12 report that Sharp would sign and compete for a two-way spot carries a confidence of 35, and the October 14 item on Trey Jemison's waiver carries 32. Sharp arrived October 13 and left five days later.
Noise and Thin Air
Hoops Rumors carried an October 1 item headlined with a three-year Jamal Shead extension. It scores 20 and is open, so treat it as a report, not a deal. Shead has played 11 more minutes a night over the last three games, which makes the topic natural, but a workload is not a contract. The October 2 item on Rogers controlling all of the parent company also scores 20. The October 22 Fischer roundup lists the Raptors with no detail and scores 41, the highest of the open items. The October 20 item on 2027/28 options for Murray-Boyles and Walter scores 39 and is open. Neither of the last two says more than its headline.
Barrett and the Payroll
The one Barrett item that is confirmed, dated September 30, says Toronto had held no serious extension talks. Nothing has been reported since the October 9 Atlantic notes, even as Barrett scored 23 at Washington and has taken on 10 more minutes a night over the last three games. Poeltl's extension, tied to Leonard and Shead in the October 1 notes, has no new word either. The money is not roomy. Payroll is $201.2 million against a tax line of $200.4 million, so Toronto is $0.8 million over. Barrett counts $29.6 million and Poeltl holds a $19.5 million player option. Any new deal starts from a payroll that is already over the line.
Has RJ Barrett signed an extension with the Raptors?
No. The latest confirmed item, dated September 30, says Toronto had held no serious talks, and nothing has been reported since the October 9 notes.
Is the Raptors' payroll over the luxury tax line?
Yes. Toronto's payroll is $201.2 million against a tax line of $200.4 million, which puts it $0.8 million over.
