Philly's Press Is Debating Trust and Embiid; the Numbers Back Only Part

Trust, Embiid's mindset, Tacko Fall and Edgecombe's clutch shot: what Philly's 6-1 start does and does not support.

The outlets covering Philly are arguing about trust, Embiid's approach and center depth after a 6-1 start. Seven games back some of it and settle none of it.

Is Philly's 6-1 start really about trust?

The Philadelphia Inquirer's Chris Hine framed the 6-1 start around trust. The record is real, and Philly is seeded first. But the last three wins came by five points each, and the team's net rating sits at 3.7 across seven games. That is a good start with thin margins. Trust may be the story. A seven-game sample cannot confirm it.

Is Embiid's mindset the problem?

The Sixer Sense's Nathan Doyle wrote that Embiid's mentality shift cannot continue if Philly wants success. The numbers support part of the worry: Embiid averages 19.2 points on 14.3 percent three-point shooting over five games, against 26.9 points last season in 38 games. They do not say why. Nothing here supports a diagnosis, and he is listed with a foot issue and a Nov. 2 target.

Does Tacko Fall fix the center depth?

The Sixer Sense's Justin Grasso argued Philly quietly added center depth with Tacko Fall. The facts are thin. Fall moved to a two-way deal on Oct. 17, per Shams Charania, and was cleared Oct. 31. Ariel Hukporti is out with an Achilles issue and an Oct. 1, 2027 return, and Dominick Barlow is out with a Nov. 4 target. Nothing yet shows Fall's role.

Who really won the comeback in Charlotte?

Liberty Ballers' Paul Hudrick treated Edgecombe's big shot as the cap on the comeback, and the Inquirer's Chris Hine stressed it came without two of Philly's stars. The box score adds nuance. Edgecombe scored 10 on 4-of-13 shooting, while Maxey scored 15 of the 32 fourth-quarter points. Philly closed on a 13-0 run over the last 3:11, trailing 101-94 when it started.

Does Chicago give Philly a free pass?

ESPN's preview has Chicago trying to stop a four-game skid, and the facts agree: the Bulls are 1-5 with a defensive rating of 121.6, and Nic Claxton is out. Philly is on a back-to-back with four games in the past seven days, and it visits Chicago again Nov. 8. Beating the Bulls proves little. Losing to them would say plenty.

The verdictThe outlets are right that the margins are thin and Embiid's numbers are down. They are guessing at the why, and seven games will not settle it.
Will Joel Embiid play against the Bulls?

He is listed as day-to-day with a foot issue and a Nov. 2 target, which is the game date, so his status is not settled.

Are the 76ers the top seed in the conference?

Yes. At 6-1 they hold the top seed, 3.5 games ahead of 11th place.
