Around the Beat: A Two-Way Center and a LeBron Fit Nobody's Settled

Fall gets a two-way deal, Butler takes a shot, and the beat still argues whether James fits before Friday.

Philadelphia's beat writers spent the week on four threads: a frontcourt fix, an old rival's jab, LeBron James still finding his footing, and a bench that keeps turning over. Some of it checks out against the roster and injury list; some of it is just talk.

Does Tacko Fall's two-way deal actually fix the center problem?

Not by itself. Ariel Hukporti is still Out with a right Achilles issue logged October 6, with an estimated return more than a year away. The Inquirer's Gina Mizell and Hoops Rumors both confirmed Fall's two-way conversion came to add size behind him, and that part lines up. But a two-way deal caps Fall's active NBA days, and his own hip and left-side issue from October 1 hasn't been cleared in any update since.

Is Jimmy Butler's jab at the Sixers worth taking seriously?

The Sixer Sense reported Butler sending a pointed message toward Philadelphia, old tension resurfacing from his trade years ago. Nothing in Philadelphia's own roster, contracts or rumor sheet ties back to him now, and he's not on Philadelphia's docket across the next four games against the Knicks, Cavaliers, Bucks and Pistons. Until he's actually across the court from this team, it's a former player stirring a pot the Sixers aren't near.

Is LeBron actually blending in after four preseason games?

ESPN quoted the locker room saying the group was still working out its rhythm, even after a home debut built around a highlight dunk. The results back the uncertainty more than they resolve it: a 120-125 overtime loss to Boston in the finale, Philadelphia's third preseason defeat in four tries. James, Embiid and Maxey all played together, but a 1-3 preseason mark proves little either way.

How worried should fans be about Dean Wade's ankle?

Liberty Ballers and The Sixer Sense both flagged it as a small concern out of the Celtics game, and the injury list backs that up: Wade is carrying an ankle issue with an estimated return the same day as Philadelphia's regular-season opener in New York. That's a short runway, not a long one. Call it a watch through the weekend, not a crisis yet.

Why does the roster keep turning over this close to the opener?

Hoops Rumors reported the team cut Dillon Jones along with three others, and Philadelphia's own transaction log confirms all four: Jones, Taye Fields, Cris Carroll and Jameer Nelson Jr. all left the same day. That's a 17-man group narrowing toward the regular-season limit on schedule, not a sign anything is unraveling behind the scenes.

The verdictWade's ankle and the bench churn hold up against Philadelphia's own logs; Fall's two-way move is real but doesn't settle the center picture, and Butler's comments are talk with nothing attached to this roster yet.
Is Tacko Fall replacing Ariel Hukporti at center?

No. Hukporti is still listed Out with a right Achilles issue; Fall's two-way deal adds size behind him, not a direct replacement.

Has Jimmy Butler been traded back to Philadelphia?

No. There is no such move in Philadelphia's roster or rumor reports; the report concerned comments, not a transaction.
