Of ten Kings reports, only the Clayton and Christie items can change the season

Most of the noise around Sacramento is settled or irrelevant. Two open items bear on the 1-6 start.

The Kings have $8.6 million of room below the $200.4 million tax line, so a modest addition is possible but a big one is not. Of the reports in circulation, the Clayton and Christie items deserve attention, and neither has moved in days.

Oct. 18

A report said Ben Simmons was believed to have a torn Achilles. Its confidence score is 26, the lowest of the group, and it is still open. He is listed out with a right Achilles problem, and the listed return date is Oct. 1, 2027. The listing points the same way, but nothing here confirms a diagnosis.

Oct. 19

A report said the Grizzlies are looking to trade Clayton and that Sacramento may be interested. It scores 45, tied for the highest, and is marked moved. There has been no follow-up since. Payroll is $191.8 million, over the cap, so any deal must fit salary rules. A report of interest is not an offer.

Oct. 23

A report said Sean Pedulla would sign a two-way contract. It scored 32, and it proved right: he signed Oct. 24, and the roster has not changed since. That is the cleanest hit in the group, and it is a small move. Nothing in these reports has added a rotation piece to a team 14th in the West.

Oct. 30

A report said Doug Christie is not yet on the hot seat. Its score is 40 and it is open. The Kings lost at Memphis the next day to fall to 0-6. The word "yet" carries the story. They have since won once, 115-100 at Dallas, and sit 1-6 with a defensive rating of 120.0.

Nov. 2

The newest item, at 43, covers a one-game suspension for Atlanta's Kingston Flemings. It has nothing to do with Sacramento. It is noise for this desk, whatever its score suggests. Scores measure how a report is circulating, not how much it matters to the Kings.

Next The Lakers arrive Nov. 4 at 6-2, with the Spurs on Nov. 6. Wins there would ease the Christie question more than any trade rumor.
Are the Kings trading for Clayton?

No deal has been reported. An Oct. 19 report said the Grizzlies want to trade him and the Kings may be interested, and it has had no follow-up.

Is Doug Christie on the hot seat?

A report on Oct. 30 said he is not yet on it. The Kings are 1-6, so the word yet is the part to watch.
