ESPN's Tim MacMahon and The Athletic reported Saturday that Chet Holmgren has a small patellar tendon tear and will miss 8-10 weeks. Oklahoma City, 4-1 and the No. 3 seed, plays at Houston tonight on NBA TV with six players listed out.

A Long Frontcourt Absence
Holmgren moved from day-to-day to out on Oct. 30, and the tendon reports followed within a day. The injury list now projects him back on Jan. 2, 2027. He was giving the Thunder 12.0 points and 9.3 rebounds across three games. Isaiah Hartenstein, at 9.6 rebounds in 23.8 minutes, now carries the middle, with rookie Thomas Sorber listed out until Nov. 4 with a knee issue. Michael Scotto reported the Thunder will sign Ochai Agbaji, and MacMahon reported the move fills a roster spot after the Williams and Wallace injuries.
Rest Meets a Tired Opponent
Oklahoma City comes in on two days of rest. Houston, 5-1 under Ime Udoka, is playing for the second straight night and its fourth time in a week. Alperen Sengun, at 24.5 points, and Reed Sheppard are both listed with back issues, and Steven Adams is sidelined by a calf injury. Kevin Durant is scoring 23.3 a game. The gap in net rating, 10.8 to 3.4, favors the Rockets. The schedule favors the Thunder.
The Margin and the Question
The Thunder are winning by just 2.0 points a game. Gilgeous-Alexander is scoring 26.0 but shooting 26.5 percent from three, while Ajay Mitchell, at 18.6 points, has become the second option. Jared McCain's role has grown by 11 minutes per game over the last three. Alex Caruso, Nikola Topic and Sorber are all listed to return Nov. 4 against Cleveland. The open question is whether this guard-heavy group can hold through Houston and the Nov. 2 trip to Cleveland before that help arrives.
How long will Chet Holmgren be out?
ESPN, The Athletic and Hoops Rumors reported 8-10 weeks for a small patellar tendon tear. The injury list projects his return for Jan. 2, 2027.
When do the Thunder play the Rockets, and where can I watch?
Oklahoma City plays at Houston tonight, Oct. 31, on NBA TV.
