The box score from the October 7 game against Milwaukee shows Holmgren with 0 points, 0 rebounds, 0 assists and 0.0 minutes in a loss. That lines up with the timing of his quadriceps issue, which showed up on the injury report on October 10 after a rest designation on October 5. He did not take the floor that night. Fans checking his game log should not read that zero line as a bad game. It is a game he did not play. The next time he appeared was October 20 against San Antonio, and he was cleared the day before. The gap between the two appearances is the only stretch of lost time on his record so far this season.

Last season, in 2025-26, Holmgren played 69 games for Oklahoma City at 28.9 minutes a night. He averaged 17.1 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.6 steals and 1.9 blocks, with 1.6 turnovers. His shooting was efficient across the board last season: 55.7 percent from the field, 36.2 percent from three and 79.2 percent from the line. That worked out to a true shooting mark of 65.3 on a usage rate of 21.4. His plus-minus last season was 9.8. Those are the numbers of a big who does not need the ball a lot to change a game. He scores inside, stretches the floor some, protects the rim and stays out of foul and turnover trouble. The Thunder will want that same version in 2026-27.

Holmgren's last extended stretch of games came in a series against San Antonio last spring. From May 18 through May 30 he played seven games against the Spurs. His best night was May 26, a win with 16 points and 11 rebounds in 29.8 minutes. On May 28 he had 10 points and 11 rebounds in 24.3 minutes in a loss. He opened the series on May 18 with 8 points and 8 rebounds in 40.9 minutes, his heaviest workload of the run, in a loss. The series closed with a May 30 loss where he had 4 points and 4 rebounds in 32.8 minutes. Before that series he scored 16 points with 9 rebounds in 35.2 minutes in a win over the Lakers on May 11. The scoring was uneven, but the rebounding held up.

The main question is whether the quadriceps issue is fully behind him. The signs are good. He was cleared, he played 30.5 minutes and he is not listed on the report. A 7-1 big at 208 pounds will always draw attention when a leg issue pops up, so his minutes in the next few games will tell the story. Last season's 28.9 minutes per game is the baseline. If he is holding near that number and producing around his 17.1 points and 8.9 rebounds from last season, the Thunder have what they need. There are no trade or contract rumors attached to him right now. The focus is on health and on keeping the efficient, low-turnover game that defined his 2025-26.
