Mavericks guard Jett Howard moved from day-to-day to out with a right calf issue in the injury report posted Saturday afternoon. He is listed out for the 8:00 p.m. ET game against the Spurs, though the report's comment calls him doubtful.
What happened
Mavericks guard Jett Howard is out with a right calf issue, according to the injury report posted Saturday, Oct. 24, at 2:46 p.m. ET. He had been day-to-day. The report lists his expected return as Oct. 24, the day of the Spurs game, but the status reads out. The report's comment says Howard is listed as doubtful against the Spurs on Saturday, which does not match that status. His listing has changed often this week. He was cleared and then listed day-to-day with the calf on Tuesday, Oct. 20. He moved between out and day-to-day on Oct. 21 and again on Oct. 23.
What it means for the Mavericks
Dallas faces the Spurs on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET. The Mavericks are 1-1, ninth in the standings, and won their last game. Howard has not played for them this season, so the record is 0-0 with him and 1-1 without him. Last season he appeared in 55 games and averaged 12.6 minutes, 5.5 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.8 assists. In games without him, Max Christie (33.2 minutes), P.J. Washington (31.9) and Naji Marshall (31.0) have carried the heaviest loads. Marcus Sasser has played 25.3 minutes. The report also lists Cooper Flagg as out. Kyrie Irving, Zaccharie Risacher and Christie are day-to-day.
What to watch
The time of the next injury report has not been announced. Howard's status has flipped several times in five days, so the next update matters. The report gives an expected return of Oct. 24, but with an out designation and a doubtful comment, nothing firm has been announced beyond the Spurs game. Watch whether the Mavericks list him again as day-to-day before their next game. Also watch the statuses of Irving, Risacher and Christie, who are all day-to-day.
Is Jett Howard playing vs the Spurs?
