Kawhi Leonard has moved from out to day-to-day with left knee swelling, according to Monday's injury report. The Raptors list Wednesday's game against the Magic as his expected return date.

What happened

The Raptors upgraded Kawhi Leonard from out to day-to-day on Monday, Oct. 26, in an update posted at 10:14 a.m. ET. The injury is listed as a left knee and leg issue. Leonard sat out Sunday's game against the Timberwolves because of left knee swelling, Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca reported. The report gives Oct. 28 as his expected return date. Before the knee issue, his status had last changed on Oct. 17, when he was cleared from day-to-day. That earlier tag was for rest.

What it means for the Raptors

Toronto hosts the Magic on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Raptors are 2-1, sit fourth in the standings and are on a one-game losing streak. They are 2-0 with Leonard and 0-1 without him. In two games he has averaged 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 25.8 minutes. When he was out, RJ Barrett played 30.8 minutes and scored 21.0 points. Scottie Barnes played 30.2 minutes and Immanuel Quickley 28.5. Ja'Kobe Walter got 26.1 minutes. Jakob Poeltl played 22.5 and Jamal Shead 20.3. Collin Murray-Boyles and Allen Graves also played in that game.

What to watch

Leonard is day-to-day, so the next injury report decides whether he plays against the Magic. The report lists Oct. 28 as his expected return, but that is not a confirmation that he will play. Toronto has not announced a longer timeline for the knee. Nate Bittle remains out with a right foot issue. The Magic game on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET is the next test for the knee.
