Williams Injury Reframes a 3-0 Start Before Suns

Oklahoma City is unbeaten, but tonight's question is who absorbs Jalen Williams' 32 minutes.

Jalen Williams left Sunday's win over the Clippers on a stretcher, and the 3-0 Thunder host Phoenix tonight as the third seed in the West. The injury list shows him day-to-day with a November 2 estimate, while outlets describe something more serious.

Two pictures of one injury

ESPN reported that Williams was taken off with a significant injury, and The Athletic called it a gruesome leg injury. RealGM carried Mark Daigneault's answer, "We're Not Doing Great." The Thunder's listing says left ankle and leg, day-to-day, estimated return November 2. Those pictures do not match yet, and no diagnosis is in hand. Treat the date as a placeholder until more is said.

Phoenix arrives at 1-1

The Suns come in after Devin Booker's 43-point game, according to ESPN. They are without Mark Williams, out with a shoulder issue, and Oso Ighodaro is day-to-day. Oklahoma City has its own list: Cason Wallace and Jaylin Williams are day-to-day with estimated returns of today, and Nikola Topic and Thomas Sorber carry the same date as out. After the Suns come the Mavericks on Wednesday and the Rockets on Saturday, both on the road.

Where the minutes go

Williams scored 8 points in 32 minutes Sunday, so the hole is real but not a scoring crater. Ajay Mitchell is the obvious answer: 18 points on 8-14 shooting, and Thunderous Intentions argued he is the solution already on the roster. The same outlet argued that Bennett Stirtz, who played 11 minutes at minus-7, becomes essential. Alex Caruso was plus-18 in 22 minutes, and Jared McCain played 21. The open question is whether Daigneault promotes Mitchell to the starting five or keeps the bench intact and reaches deeper into the guard room.

How serious is Jalen Williams' injury?

ESPN and The Athletic described it as significant, but no diagnosis has been given. The Thunder list him as day-to-day with a left ankle and leg issue and an estimated return of November 2.

Who do the Thunder play next?

They host the Phoenix Suns tonight, October 26. Next is a road game at the Mavericks on October 28.
