Oklahoma City downgraded Nikola Topic (back) and Thomas Sorber (right knee) to Out on October 21, both with an estimated return of October 26 against Phoenix. Tonight the 1-0 Thunder host the Nuggets on ESPN, with Denver missing Julian Strawther and Spencer Jones carrying a hamstring issue.

Two Prospects, One Date

Both players moved between statuses on October 21 before ending the day at Out. Each has an estimated return of October 26, the second night of a home back-to-back against the Clippers and Suns. For a roster built through the draft, the 20-year-old Sorber and the 21-year-old Topic are the next layer of growth, and their reps are on hold. Otega Oweh's Achilles keeps him sidelined, with an estimated return of July 1, 2027.

Denver's Offense Meets Ours

The Nuggets posted a 121.2 offensive rating last season, and Oklahoma City's 106.5 defensive rating is what stands against it. Nikola Jokic averaged 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 10.7 assists, and Jamal Murray added 25.4 points a night. Aday Mara, a 21-year-old rookie, gave the Thunder 7 points and a +9 in 12 minutes at San Antonio, and Thunderous Intentions argued his debut could put pressure on Isaiah Hartenstein's role. Jokic is a different assignment from Victor Wembanyama, who shot 1-of-13 in the opener.

The Closing Group Question

Jared McCain finished +20 off the bench, and the reserves scored 45 points to the starters' 68. In the final five minutes, Mark Daigneault went with McCain, Alex Caruso and Hartenstein next to Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren. That group protected a lead that never fell below double digits late. With Topic out at least until the weekend, does Daigneault trust the same five against Jokic?

When will Nikola Topic and Thomas Sorber return for the Thunder?

Both are listed Out with an estimated return of October 26, when Oklahoma City hosts Phoenix.

Who is injured for the Nuggets against the Thunder?

Julian Strawther is out with a left knee injury. Spencer Jones has a hamstring issue going into the game.
