What the Wallace deal says

ESPN's Tim MacMahon and The Athletic, citing a source, both reported the five-year terms, and Hoops Rumors carried the same $139MM figure. Wallace is 22, and last season he played 77 games at 26.6 minutes, scoring 8.6 points with 35.1 percent from three. That is a long commitment to a defender and connector rather than a scorer, which fits how this front office has built the roster: pay for growth before it peaks. Wallace reappeared on the injury report October 15 with an undisclosed issue, and his listed return is October 20.

Opener and the week ahead

The Thunder open Tuesday, October 20, at the Spurs on NBC and Peacock. Thursday brings the Nuggets on ESPN, then the Clippers on October 25 and the Suns on October 26. Holmgren, Wallace, Jaylin Williams, Topic and Sorber all list October 20 as a target return, so the open question is who actually dresses in San Antonio. Otega Oweh is out with a right Achilles rupture and a listed return of July 1, 2027. The preseason ended with an 89-116 loss at Houston, which tells us little beyond the health picture.

The bill behind the core

Oklahoma City carries $216.2M in salary against a $200.4M tax line, and the extension is a new line item for the seasons ahead. Holmgren's $41.5M, Jalen Williams's $41.5M and Gilgeous-Alexander's $40.8M anchor it, with Hartenstein at $23.1M and Caruso at $19.6M behind them. Last season's 64-18 record came with a plus-11.1 net rating, so the spending has a result attached. The team still owns its own picks in 2029 and 2030, which keeps the long-term flexibility intact.

How much is Cason Wallace's Thunder extension worth?

ESPN, The Athletic and Hoops Rumors reported a five-year extension worth $139 million. It was reported Monday, October 19.

When do the Thunder play their first regular-season game?

They open Tuesday, October 20, at the Spurs on NBC and Peacock. Their next game is October 22 against the Nuggets on ESPN.
