Coverage this week centers on Cason Wallace's agreed extension, the waived camp invitees and Tuesday's opener in San Antonio. The Thunder's own numbers support the extension and the favorite's role, but they leave the roster and health questions open.

What the extension coverage supports

ESPN's Tim MacMahon reported that the Thunder agreed to a five-year, $139M extension with Cason Wallace. The Athletic, Hoops Rumors and RealGM carried the same news, and The Athletic attributed it to a source. Thunderous Intentions called the deal exactly what everyone needed. The numbers back a real investment in a young guard: Wallace played 77 games last season, at 26.6 minutes, 8.6 points and 35.1 percent from three. They do not make it cheap. The $216.2M bill already clears the $200.4M tax line, with Holmgren and Jalen Williams at $41.5M each. Wallace is also listed day-to-day with an undisclosed issue, with an estimated return of October 20.

Camp invitees and the roster

RealGM reported that the Thunder waived Buddy Boeheim, Nate Johnson, Christoph Tilly and Lamar Wilkerson. Hoops Rumors reported the Whitehead waiver and the Boeheim signing, then separately four camp invitees going. Our transaction log confirms five departures on October 18, Whitehead among them. What it does not show is any reason, or any regular-season path for those players. Thunderous Intentions wrote about a contract dispute flare-up involving Aday Mara. We have no contract details on Mara, so we cannot say what was disputed or settled. The one hard roster fact is Otega Oweh: out with a right Achilles injury, estimated return July 1, 2027.

Reading the Spurs opener

ESPN's preview has San Antonio hosting Oklahoma City on Tuesday. Thunderous Intentions wrote that Devin Vassell highlighted a clear Thunder advantage, and The Athletic's predictions column has the Thunder toppling the Knicks. Last season's results lean that way: Oklahoma City went 64-18 with an 11.1 net rating, while San Antonio went 62-20 at 8.4. The Thunder also have four days of rest to the Spurs' three. Health tempers it. Holmgren, Wallace, Topic, Sorber and Jaylin Williams are all day-to-day, and the 1-4 preseason says little either way. The Spurs list Tobias Harris as day-to-day and Jayden Quaintance as out.

How much is Cason Wallace's extension with the Thunder?

ESPN, The Athletic, Hoops Rumors and RealGM reported a five-year, $139M extension. The Athletic attributed the report to a source.

Are the Thunder favored against the Spurs in the opener?

Last season's numbers favor Oklahoma City: a 64-18 record and an 11.1 net rating, against San Antonio's 62-20 and 8.4. Several Thunder players are day-to-day, so the edge is not clear-cut.
