Kyrie Irving was cleared from day-to-day status on the official injury report Wednesday night, after a knee issue first listed Tuesday. That makes him available for the Mavericks' home game against the Thunder.

What happened

Kyrie Irving was cleared on the official injury report at 8:04 PM ET on Wednesday, Oct. 28. His previous status was day-to-day. He was listed that way on Tuesday, Oct. 27, with a knee issue. The report gave no new detail and no comment with the change. It is his second clearance in four days. He was listed out on Saturday, Oct. 24, first for rest and then with a left knee issue. He moved to day-to-day on Sunday, Oct. 25, and was cleared later that day.

What it means for the Mavericks

Dallas hosts the Thunder on Wednesday at 9:30 PM ET on ESPN. The Mavericks are 2-2, eighth in the West, and won their last game. They are 2-1 with Irving and 0-1 without him. Through three games he is averaging 19.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 27.1 minutes. In the game he missed, Cooper Flagg carried the scoring with 25.0 points in 29.9 minutes. P.J. Washington played 35.1 minutes, and Max Christie and Marcus Sasser handled guard minutes. Naji Marshall, who averaged 27.6 minutes in that stretch, is out with an illness. That makes Irving's return more important.

What to watch

Irving has been on and off the report all week with the knee, so watch the next report to see whether he stays off it. No restriction or minutes limit has been announced. The Mavericks are still thin. Marshall, Dereck Lively II, Santi Aldama, Tarik Biberovic and Sergio de Larrea are all listed out. The Thunder game is the first test of how much Irving can carry.
