Jaylen Brown was cleared on the official injury report Saturday evening, after he had been listed as day-to-day with a left knee issue earlier in the day. He is available for the 76ers at Charlotte, where Philadelphia is without LeBron James and Joel Embiid.
What happened
The official injury report changed Jaylen Brown's status to cleared at 5:42 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 31. Tip-off at Charlotte was set for 6 p.m. He had been listed as day-to-day earlier Saturday. Before that, he was out on Friday, Oct. 30. The knee first appeared on the report on Thursday, Oct. 29, and Saturday's earlier listings named his left knee. The clearance came with no detail and no comment. Brown, 30, was also cleared once before, on Oct. 16, after a day-to-day listing.
What it means for the 76ers
Brown returns on a night when the 76ers are short. The injury report lists LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Dominick Barlow and Ariel Hukporti as out. Philadelphia is 5-1, holds the second seed and has won two straight. The team is 4-1 with Brown and 1-0 without him. Through five games, he averages 20.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 36.3 minutes. Tyrese Maxey leads the rotation at 37.5 minutes and 28.2 points. VJ Edgecombe plays 32.6 minutes, Dean Wade 27.1, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope 25.3, Anfernee Simons 24.6 and Adem Bona 12.7. Brown takes on a bigger share with James and Embiid out.
What to watch
Saturday's game at Charlotte tips at 6 p.m. ET on NBA TV. No minutes limit has been announced for Brown. In three days, he went from day-to-day to out, back to day-to-day, and then to cleared. That makes the next injury report worth checking before Philadelphia's following game. Also watch the listings for James and Embiid. Both are out with no return announced, and that decides how much of the load stays on Brown and Maxey.
