Rudy Gobert was downgraded from day-to-day to out for Saturday's game at San Antonio because of a back issue. The Timberwolves will also be without Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo, both listed as out.
What happened
Rudy Gobert is out for Saturday's game at San Antonio with a back issue. The injury report filed at 6:28 PM ET on Oct. 31 changed his status from day-to-day to out. He had been listed as day-to-day with the back problem earlier the same day. Dane Moore of 'The Dane Moore NBA Podcast' first reported that Gobert would miss the game against the Spurs. Before Saturday, Gobert had appeared on the report only for rest, on Oct. 10 and Oct. 16, and was cleared both times.
What it means for the Timberwolves
Minnesota plays at San Antonio at 8:00 PM ET on Saturday. The Wolves are 4-2, seventh in the West, and won their last game. Gobert has played in all six games, averaging 7.0 points, 12.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 29.9 minutes. Minnesota is 4-2 with him and has not played a game without him. Edwards is also out with a right knee issue. He leads the team at 33.3 points in 33.6 minutes. DiVincenzo is out with a right Achilles issue. Joan Beringer, who averages 16.1 minutes, and Trey Lyles, at 15.9, are the main candidates to absorb Gobert's minutes.
What to watch
The injury report lists Nov. 2 as Gobert's expected return. The team has given no further timeline. The next injury report will show whether that date still holds and whether his status changes from out. Edwards' status is also worth watching. Saturday will be Minnesota's first game this season without Gobert. Because Edwards is also out, the Wolves will be missing their leading scorer and leading rebounder at the same time.
