Rumor Check: Claxton's Clock and a Quiet Wire

The reports on the Bulls are mostly small, low-scored and open. The Claxton timeline is the only one that matters.

Nothing in the Bulls' recent reporting points to a trade or a signing of consequence, and the highest-scored item is 38. The one report that moves games is the Nic Claxton hamstring timeline.

Claxton is the real one. Hoops Rumors reported October 5 that Claxton would be out at least two weeks, scored 20. On October 19 it reported two more weeks, scored 37. Both are still open. The injury list now shows a November 4 estimate, the night the Bulls visit New York.

The options report. A report from October 20 on the 2027/28 options for Matas Buzelis and Noa Essengue scored 38 and is still marked open. The roster story lists both as exercised, so treat it as done. It also says the Bulls like what they have in two young forwards.

Hawkins, unresolved. A report from October 5 said Jordan Hawkins agreed to a two-way contract. It scored 21 and is still open. Hawkins is on the 17-man roster at No. 15, and he was cleared from an illness on October 23. That is all we can say.

Noise from September. The September 28 injury roundup, passed along via Zion Brown, scored 25 and is open. It lumps the Bulls in with Haliburton, Curry, Luka and Beal. It carries no Chicago detail worth acting on. The recent notes columns name Wilson, Splitter, Essengue and the schedule, but nothing there is a move.

What the cap sheet says. Payroll is $164.3 million against a $165.0 million cap, which leaves $0.7 million of space. The tax line is $200.4 million, far off. Giddey earns $25.0 million, Claxton $23.1 million, Powell $21.5 million. Nobody is shopping for a splash with that sheet.

Picks on hand. The Bulls hold their own first-round picks in 2027, 2028, 2029 and 2030. The 2027 second goes to Oklahoma City. No report ties any pick to a deal. Keeping the firsts is a choice for a team that went 31-51 and sits 11th at 1-2.

On deck The Bulls play at Boston tonight, then host the Knicks October 28. They return to Boston October 30 in the Emirates NBA Cup, then visit the 76ers November 2.
When will Nic Claxton return for the Bulls?

The injury list shows an estimated return of November 4, the night of the game at the Knicks. A report on October 19 said he would miss two more weeks with a hamstring problem.

Are the Bulls close to a trade?

No report in the Bulls' recent coverage points to a trade. Payroll is $164.3 million against a $165.0 million cap, so there is little room to add salary.
