Off the floor, the outlets that cover this team spent the week debating how the front office manages a $214.8 million payroll well above the first apron.

Camp Set, Roster Unchanged

Oklahoma City opens the preseason October 6 against New Orleans, then hosts Milwaukee on October 7 before road games at Atlanta on October 12 and a home date with Indiana on October 13. The roster has not moved since Christoph Tilly signed on September 14, and the regular season opens October 20 at San Antonio.

The Cost Of Staying Whole

Oklahoma City carries a $214.8 million payroll, above the $200.4 million luxury tax and the first apron, with the $221.7 million second apron the next real ceiling. Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren each count $41.5 million against the cap, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander $40.8 million and Isaiah Hartenstein $23.1 million. Every dollar of continuity from last season's 64-18 champion comes at that price.

Where The Beat Disagrees

Thunderous Intentions argued this week that Christoph Tilly's signing does nothing for the team's biggest hole up front, and separately that Aday Mara or Thomas Sorber need real minutes before Isaiah Hartenstein becomes tradable.
