Bulls Rumor Check: Claxton's Clock, Giddey Chatter and a Tight Cap

What the reports say, what holds up, and what a $164.3M payroll actually allows before Boston.

The only Bulls reports with weight concern Nic Claxton's hamstring and contract housekeeping. The trade talk around Josh Giddey, Ty Jerome and Norman Powell is opinion, not reporting, and the cap sheet leaves little room to act on it anyway.

Claxton's timeline holds. An Oct. 5 report had Nic Claxton out at least two weeks with a hamstring issue, confidence 20. An Oct. 19 report said two more weeks, confidence 32. Both remain open. He is listed out with a target of Nov. 4 at the Knicks, so the second report is tracking close to the official line.

Options report lines up. An Oct. 20 report said the Bulls picked up 2027/28 options on Matas Buzelis and Noa Essengue, confidence 33 and still open. Keeping two young forwards under control is the obvious call for a team sitting 1-4 and on pace for 16-66. Nothing about it is controversial.

Hawkins deal unverified. A report from Oct. 5 had Jordan Hawkins agreeing to a two-way contract, confidence 20 and never closed out. Hawkins wears No. 15 on the current roster, so he is here. The contract terms are the open part, and a score that low says treat the two-way detail as unconfirmed.

Giddey talk is a column. Morris Bankston argued Oct. 30 that the Bulls need serious talks with Phoenix about Josh Giddey. That is an argument, not a report: no source, no talks described. Giddey is the top salary at $25.0M, and Chicago owns its first-round picks from 2027 through 2030, so nothing forces a move.

Jerome and Powell, same story. Maxwell Ogden wrote Oct. 28 that Chicago should watch the Ty Jerome trade market, and a day later that Powell's Bulls tenure could be brief. Neither piece cites a source or describes talks. Powell, 33, makes $21.5M. File both under noise until someone with a source says otherwise.

What the cap allows. Payroll is $164.3M against a $165.0M cap, so there is no room to absorb salary. Any trade has to send money out. The tax line sits at $200.4M, roughly $36M of room to take on more in a matched deal. The 2027 second-rounder belongs to Oklahoma City.

The confirmed moves. The real transactions are done and dull. The Bulls waived Marquel Sutton and signed Jalen Bridges Oct. 1, signed Isaiah Stevens Oct. 2 and cut four camp invitees Oct. 17. Bridges was gone by Oct. 18. None of it changes the rotation that takes the floor in Boston.

On deck The Bulls play at Boston tonight in an Emirates NBA Cup game, then at Philadelphia Nov. 2, Dailyn Swain's target date, and at New York Nov. 4, Claxton's target date.
Are the Bulls trading Josh Giddey?

No report says so. A column argued for talks with Phoenix, but nobody has reported actual negotiations.

When will Nic Claxton make his Bulls debut?

He is listed out with a target of Nov. 4 at the Knicks. That matches an Oct. 19 report that he would miss two more weeks.
