Jalen Suggs was downgraded from day-to-day to out on Monday with a mild bone bruise in his right knee. He will be re-evaluated in two weeks, and the Magic play at Toronto on Wednesday without him.
What happened
The Magic changed Jalen Suggs' status to Out on the injury report Monday at 3:02 PM ET. He had been listed day-to-day with the same right knee issue on Sunday. The report lists the injury as knee, leg, right. Shams Charania of ESPN reports that Suggs has been diagnosed with a mild bone bruise in his right knee and will be re-evaluated in two weeks. The report gives an expected return of Nov. 10. Earlier this month Suggs was listed day-to-day with an illness on Oct. 5 and was cleared on Oct. 13.
What it means for the Magic
Orlando plays at the Raptors on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 PM ET, with a 1-2 record, the 10th seed and one win in its last game. Paolo Banchero, Jonathan Isaac, Noah Penda and Izaiyah Nelson are also listed out. Franz Wagner (33.3 minutes), Desmond Bane (31.7), Wendell Carter Jr. (30.8), Tristan da Silva (28.1) and Anthony Black (25.9) carry the heaviest rotation loads. Jase Richardson (15.3) and Jevon Carter (13.5) play smaller roles.
What to watch
The next checkpoint is the re-evaluation in about two weeks. The report gives an expected return of Nov. 10, and the team has not announced anything beyond that. Until then, watch how Orlando divides his 33.4 minutes among Black, Richardson, Carter and the rest of the guard rotation, and whether any of the four other players on the report return. The first game without him is Wednesday at Toronto.
