Warriors forward Gui Santos was upgraded from day-to-day to cleared on Friday night's injury report. That makes him available for Friday's home game against the Lakers.
What happened
Gui Santos was listed as cleared on the injury report at 9:11 PM ET on Friday, Oct. 30. He had been day-to-day with a left knee issue. The report gave no new detail and no comment. The knee has come and gone on the report for a week. He was day-to-day on Sunday, Oct. 25, cleared on Tuesday, Oct. 27, ruled out on Wednesday, Oct. 28, and moved back to day-to-day on Thursday, Oct. 29.
What it means for the Warriors
Golden State hosts the Lakers on Friday at 10:00 PM ET on Prime Video. The Warriors are 2-3 and 10th in the West, with two straight wins. Santos, 24, has played four games and averages 9.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 23.9 minutes. The Warriors are 1-3 with him and 1-0 without him. In the game he missed, Yaxel Lendeborg played 33.6 minutes and scored 22.6 points. Georges Niang (19.5 minutes) and Al Horford (18.3) also picked up frontcourt minutes. The Warriors are still thin up front. Jimmy Butler III (right knee), Kristaps Porzingis (illness) and Moses Moody (left knee) are all listed as out.
What to watch
The main question is how the left knee holds up. He has been cleared once already this month and then went back on the report a day later. If the knee flares up again, he will show up on the next injury report. With Butler, Porzingis and Moody out, Santos could see a full load of minutes against the Lakers. Nothing has been announced about limits on his playing time.
