Jamal Shead Is Playing 11 More Minutes a Night for Toronto
A bench role turned into a starter's workload the moment the Raptors lost a rotation player.
Eleven. That is how many more minutes a night Jamal Shead has played for the Raptors over his last three games, with a teammate out, through the game on May 3, 2026.
For the 2025-26 season, Shead has averaged 23.3 minutes and 6.8 points a game. Over his last three games, those numbers rose to 34.2 minutes and 13 points. That is not a small tweak. It is 11 more minutes and nearly double the scoring, in the same stretch that Toronto has needed someone to cover for the missing teammate.
The Raptors have played 89 games this season. A jump this size, this late, points to necessity. Someone has to take the extra minutes when a rotation player is out, and Shead has been the one to take them.
Whether this holds comes down to one thing: the return of the teammate who is out. If that player is back on the floor for Toronto, expect Shead's minutes to drift back toward his season average of 23.3. If the absence continues, or if these three games are enough to convince the coaching staff to keep him out there once the teammate is back, the extra 11 minutes could become the new normal.
For now, this is three games. That is enough to notice a shift. It is not enough to call it settled.
