The Hawks open 2026-27 at Orlando on Wednesday and play four more games through October 28, including a home-and-home against the Rockets. Atlanta arrives with four rest days, a 4-1 preseason and two players ruled out: Mouhamed Gueye until November 20 and Henri Veesaar for the season.

The schedule, game by game
Wednesday, October 21, at the Magic. Friday, October 23, at the Hornets. Saturday, October 24, the home opener against the Rockets. Monday, October 26, at the Rockets. Wednesday, October 28, the Heat at State Farm Arena. The pinch is Friday into Saturday: a game in Charlotte, a flight home, then Houston the next night, with the rematch in Texas two days later. Both the Hawks and the Magic come in off four rest days and one game in the previous seven, so nobody gets a fatigue edge in the opener. On the viewing side, Brad Rowland of Locked On Hawks reported that Prime Video is the club's new in-market streaming home this season, with games still on ANF and Peachtree Sports Network on television.
Why Orlando matters most
It is the opener, it is a division game, and it is the first measure of whether last season's ending is over. Atlanta finished 2025-26 at plus-1.1 per game but lost its last ten by 11.8 a night. The Magic went 45-37 with a defensive rating of 113.6, barely behind Atlanta's 112.9, and they bring Paolo Banchero at 22.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists plus Desmond Bane, who played all 82 games at 20.1 points. The Hawks' answer is the group that closed last season as their best: Daniels, Johnson, Okongwu, Alexander-Walker and McCollum outscored opponents by 20.3 points per hundred possessions over 391 minutes. Atlanta also played faster last season, 102.5 possessions to Orlando's 100.6, and that tempo is the identity Quin Snyder wants to export on the road.
Who is out, and who is not
Gueye is out with a left foot injury and a target return of November 20, which removes a rotation forward for the whole week. Veesaar's right knee keeps him out until a listed July 2027 date, so the center depth is Okongwu and Jock Landale, who gave the Hawks 10.6 points and a 38.3 three-point mark last season. Orlando's list is longer. Noah Penda and Izaiyah Nelson are out. Anthony Black, Franz Wagner, Jase Richardson and Jonathan Isaac carry injury designations without being ruled out, and Wagner managed only 34 games last season. If Black and Wagner play, the Magic have four scorers at 15 points or better from a year ago. If they sit, Atlanta's road opener gets noticeably easier before the trip to Charlotte.
When do the Hawks open the 2026-27 season?
