Johnny Furphy is out for the remainder of the season after tearing his right ACL, ending his 2026-27 campaign before it starts. The Pacers will lean more on their wing and guard rotation as a result.

What happened

Furphy was officially listed as Out on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 4:32 AM ET with a right knee injury, and he had not been listed on a prior report. No timetable for surgery or a specific return date has been announced.

What it means for the Pacers

Indiana opens its season on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 7:00 PM ET against the Timberwolves. Furphy averaged 18.4 minutes, 5.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists over 35 games last season, and losing him removes a young wing option from the rotation before the year begins. Bennedict Mathurin (31.8 min, 17.8 pts), Aaron Nesmith (29.7 min, 13.8 pts) and Andrew Nembhard (31.3 min, 16.9 pts) are among the players who have logged the heaviest minutes in the backcourt and on the wing, alongside Jarace Walker, Kobe Brown and Jalen Slawson. The Pacers have not played a regular-season game yet this season.

What to watch

There is no surgery timetable or return date attached to the report beyond the remainder-of-season designation. The next injury report will show whether Furphy's status changes or whether more detail on his recovery is added. Indiana opens the season Oct. 7 against Minnesota without him available.
