Mashack's Minutes Are Up 18 a Night for the Grizzlies
Jahmai Mashack's playing time nearly doubled over the Grizzlies' last three games, and it holds only as long as the teammate he replaced stays out.
Jahmai Mashack is up 18 minutes a night for the Grizzlies. Last season, in 31 games, he averaged 21.7 minutes a game. Over his last three games, through April 12, 2026, with a teammate out, he averaged 39.7 minutes a night.
The scoring moved with the minutes. Mashack averaged 6.2 points a game for the season. Over those same three games, he averaged 11 points a game. That is a real jump in role, not a stretch of garbage time. A player who nearly doubles his minutes and almost doubles his scoring is being asked to do more, not just fill a box score.
The cause is specific: one teammate was out. That is the whole story behind the extra 18 minutes a night. It is not a coaching decision made in a vacuum, and it is not proof that Mashack has permanently taken a bigger role on this team.
For the higher workload to hold, the same teammate needs to stay out of the lineup. If that player returns to full health and rejoins the rotation, the simplest outcome is that Mashack's minutes drift back toward his season average of 21.7. The alternative is that the Grizzlies liked what they saw over those three games enough to keep him closer to 39.7 minutes even after that teammate is back. As of April 12, 2026, last season, there is no sign yet of which of those two paths the team will choose.
