AMEN Thompson

In 2025-26, Thompson played all 79 games for Houston, averaging 37.4 minutes, 18.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.6 blocks, with 2.4 turnovers. He shot 53.4 percent from the field, 21.6 percent from three and 77.9 percent from the line, with a true shooting mark of 59.4 percent on a 19.5 usage rate. His plus-minus for the season was +4.7. That workload, 37.4 minutes a night across a full 79-game slate, made him one of Houston's most-used players last season heading into this year.

Houston's season last year ran into a playoff series against the Lakers. Thompson played heavy minutes throughout: 43.1 in an April 18 loss (17 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists), 42.2 in an April 21 loss (16 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists), 48.4 in an April 24 loss (26 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists), 40.6 in an April 26 win (23 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists), and 45.7 in an April 29 win (15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists). The series closed on May 1 with a loss in which he played 44.5 minutes, scoring 18 points with 8 rebounds and 3 assists, posting a plus-minus of -26.0.

Before the Lakers series, Thompson had his biggest scoring night of the stretch on April 10 against Minnesota. He scored 41 points to go with 9 rebounds and 7 assists in 41.7 minutes, finishing at +1.0 in the game. That outing stands out against the rest of his late-season log, where his scoring in the games listed ranged from 14 to 26 points. The 41-point game came in a win for Houston.

Thompson is not on the injury report right now. There is no injury history listed for him. At 23 years old, in his third NBA season, he has started this year on the floor for all three of Houston's games played so far, logging between 22.4 and 29.6 minutes a night.

On October 6, cap and contracts reporter Brett Siegel put out extension notes touching on Miller, Wallace, Towns and Davis. Thompson was not named in that report. For now, the only roster-building chatter on record involves those other names, not Thompson's own contract situation.
