Nance, Broome, Garrett and Stephens are gone, with the opener at Washington now three days out.

Milwaukee waived Pete Nance, Johni Broome and Jake Stephens on Oct. 18 and also released Marcus Garrett, who had rejoined the roster only a day before. The frontcourt bench is thinner heading toward the opener at Washington on Oct. 21, with Nate Ament and Jericho Sims both still day-to-day.

Last week

Milwaukee closed the preseason 1-2, with an overtime win at Indiana on Oct. 16 capping it, 128-127. Tyler Herro scored 25 points; Brayden Burries, freshly cleared from a rest day, added 14. Before that came losses at Charlotte and at home to Chicago, both decided by double digits.

Oct. 17

Hoopsrumors reported Milwaukee intended to waive Nance, Broome and Stephens, and the team made it official that day on Bucks.com. The same afternoon, Marcus Garrett rejoined the roster. One day later he was gone too, cut alongside the other three. Broome's run with the club lasted eleven days, dating back to his Oct. 6 signing.

Oct. 18

Four players left the roster: Nance, Broome, Garrett and Stephens, all released in the same stretch. Payroll now sits at $191.4 million, above the cap but short of the tax threshold at $200.4 million. The six picks on the books, from 2027 through 2029, are all swaps except one owned second-rounder in 2027.

Right now

Two names remain on the injury list, each targeting an Oct. 21 return: Nate Ament, sidelined by a left-side ankle problem since Oct. 7, and Jericho Sims, out since Oct. 16 for a reason the team hasn't disclosed.

Next Milwaukee opens the regular season at Washington on Oct. 21. The home opener against Chicago follows two days later, Oct. 23.
Why did the Bucks release four players in one week?

Milwaukee waived Pete Nance, Johni Broome and Jake Stephens on Oct. 18, then also parted with Marcus Garrett, who had only rejoined the roster the day before; all four moves came as the team finalized its depth chart before the opener.

Will Nate Ament and Jericho Sims be ready for the season opener?

Both are listed day-to-day with an estimated return of Oct. 21, the same date as the opener at Washington, though neither has been formally cleared yet.
