Jack Anderson asked on September 27 whether Luka Garza is the roster's odd man out. Camp opens with five bigs listed: Neemias Queta, Mitchell Robinson, Garza, Amari Williams and Gabe McGlothan. Queta anchored the most-used five-man lineup last season, a group that logged 200 minutes and a net rating of +17.9, and Robinson's arrival this summer adds another body at the same position.
The two-way spot opened in September still carries no name.
Max Shulga left the team September 21. Gabe McGlothan and Hayden Gray joined two days later, on September 23. No transaction report has tied either move to the two-way opening flagged back on September 12.
Jayson Tatum's injury designation came and went in a single day.
Tatum picked up an injury designation on September 24 and cleared before that day was out, with no cause given in the report. He returns to camp after a season limited to 16 games, in which he averaged 21.8 points and 10.0 rebounds.
The preseason opens on the road; the regular season opens with a bigger audience.
Boston's preseason begins October 8 at Cleveland, with three more tune-ups against Philadelphia twice and Charlotte before October 16. The regular-season opener is set for October 20 at Detroit, airing on NBC with Peacock carrying the stream.
