Two Wins In, Three Injuries Share One Return Date

Boston's 2-0 start comes with Carter, Garza and Harper all day-to-day, each pointing to the same October 14 return.

The Celtics beat Philadelphia 144-106 Saturday to open preseason 2-0, but the injury report grew by three names the same day. Devin Carter, Luka Garza and Ron Harper Jr. are now day-to-day, each with an estimated return of October 14 — the date of Boston's next game, four days away.

The win came clean, the health report did not.

Payton Pritchard scored 25 off the bench and plus-35 in 25 minutes as Boston pulled away by as many as 45. None of that touched the day-to-day list, which turned over anyway: Carter was added for rest, then switched to illness; Garza, two days removed from a 22-point, 10-rebound game at Cleveland, was added for a nose injury; Harper was cleared for a shoulder issue in the morning and re-listed for it by the end of the day. All three carry the same estimated return, October 14.

Boston gets time the Sixers do not.

The Celtics don't play again until October 14, against the Hornets — the longest gap of camp so far. Philadelphia is in the middle of two straight road games and doesn't play again for six days; Boston's wait is four. That gap gives Mazzulla room to let three day-to-day tags resolve on their own schedule rather than a game's.

One opening has sat empty longer than any injury.

The second two-way spot has been unfilled since September 12, through Max Shulga's departure and the arrival of both Hayden Gray and Gabe McGlothan, through two preseason games already played. The regular season starts in nine days, October 20, at the Pistons. Camp will close before that spot does, one way or another.

When do the Celtics play next?

October 14 against the Hornets, a preseason game four days after the win over Philadelphia.

Which Celtics are listed day-to-day right now?

Luka Garza (nose), Devin Carter (illness) and Ron Harper Jr. (shoulder), each with an estimated return of October 14.
