Last season Baylor Scheierman played 18.6 minutes a night across 77 games, shooting 39.9 percent on 3.2 three-point attempts and 90.3 percent from the line, numbers that defined him as a low-usage floor-spacer rather than a shot creator. Two of his three most effective five-man lineups ran through Jaylen Brown, who is now in Philadelphia, leaving one surviving unit and a buy-low contract as the clearest read on his 2026-27 role.

His shooting carried a usage rate that barely registers.
Scheierman attempted just 3.2 threes a game last season and made 39.9 percent of them, with a free-throw mark of 90.3 percent on low volume. His usage sat at 11.7 percent, among the lowest on the roster, yet his true shooting of 61.6 percent outpaced most teammates who touch the ball far more. That gap is the profile: a player built to finish possessions, not start them.
Two of his best lineups belonged to a wing who is gone.
Scheierman's top three units by scoring margin last season all included him alongside Derrick White and Neemias Queta, but two of the three ran with Jaylen Brown at the four spot: Brown-Pritchard-White-Queta-Scheierman over 18 games and 53 minutes, and Brown-White-Queta-Hauser-Scheierman over 16 games and 115 minutes. Brown is in Philadelphia now, part of the trade that brought in Paul George. The one surviving grouping, White-Queta-Pritchard-Hauser-Scheierman, actually posted the largest scoring margin of the three, plus-26.5, but over just 52 minutes, too thin a sample to promise anything repeats.
His contract reads like organizational trust, not a reward for volume.
Scheierman is owed $2.7 million this season and $5.0 million next, a team-friendly number for a 26-year-old entering his second year. That deal buys Boston rotation depth at a shooting specialist's price without tying up cap room the front office needs elsewhere this season.
Health has never been his question.
He played all 77 games Boston asked of him last season and is not on the current injury report. For a roster already managing the workloads of Jayson Tatum and Paul George, a dependable 18 minutes a night from a specialist carries its own value.
What is Baylor Scheierman's role on the Celtics?

Is Baylor Scheierman signed beyond this season?
Yes. His contract runs through 2027-28 at $5.0 million, after $2.7 million this season.
