Clippers Waive Yuki Kawamura, Keep Churning Before the Opener

A fifth roster move since September points to a backcourt still being finalized.

By the Clippers Nightly Desk · Tuesday, October 13

The Clippers waived guard Yuki Kawamura on October 13, the latest in a string of moves that has also cut Fletcher Loyer and added Jahmyl Telfort since late September. The next test comes October 14 against Denver, four days before the regular-season opener against Sacramento on October 21.

Kawamura's release extends a busy month of roster moves.

Kawamura, a 25-year-old guard entering his second season, is gone less than three weeks after Jahmyl Telfort arrived and Fletcher Loyer departed. The churn has touched the back of the roster more than the top, with Garland, Ingram and Hachimura untouched by any of it.

Denver comes four days before the games start counting.

The Clippers face the Nuggets on October 14 on NBA TV, their final tune-up before hosting Sacramento in the regular-season opener on October 21. A road trip to the Lakers on October 23 and to Oklahoma City on October 25 follows almost immediately.

Lopez is playing bigger minutes as camp winds down.

Brook Lopez's minutes are up eight a night over his last three outings, the clearest sign yet that Tyronn Lue is leaning on the 38-year-old center more than his 21.8-minute average from last season suggested he would. Whether that holds once Ingram and Strus return is the question worth tracking.

Four roster spots are still unsettled heading into the opener.

Ingram, Beal, Strus and Sanders are all unavailable to open camp, with Ingram's Achilles injury the only one without an October return estimate. That leaves Lue piecing together a rotation from Hachimura, Garland, Dunn, Jones and now a bigger role for Lopez until reinforcements are healthy.

Is Yuki Kawamura still on the Clippers?

No, the Clippers waived him on October 13, 2026.

When is the Clippers' next game?

They play the Nuggets on October 14 on NBA TV, then open the regular season against the Kings on October 21.
