Outlets Chase Storylines Miami's Record Can't Confirm Yet

The beat pushes Klay's fit, Bam's math and tonight's matchup; Miami's record is still 0-0.

Local outlets spent the week floating hot takes on Klay Thompson's shooting-guard case and Bam Adebayo's scoring ceiling, days before Miami's second preseason game against New Orleans. None of it is confirmed by anything the Heat have actually done this year.

Game Two Tonight

Miami hosts New Orleans tonight, its second preseason outing after beating Toronto 129-105 on October 3, when Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 14 points and Pelle Larsson added 13. All U Can Heat's Michael Saenz flagged signs to watch for in game two and reported what Erik Spoelstra expects from his group tonight. New Orleans comes in on the road end of a back-to-back, a team that went 26-56 last season with a net rating of minus-4.4. Trey Murphy III, Zion Williamson and Bennedict Mathurin drove that offense; Herbert Jones anchored the defense. None of last year's numbers decide tonight's preseason result.

Klay's Case Unproven

The Miami Herald's Anthony Chiang and All U Can Heat's Alexy Berson both argued this week that Klay Thompson is Miami's best option at shooting guard, with Chiang's piece calling his presence a respect thing, and it means a lot. Thompson is 36 and has not logged a regular-season minute yet. The roster lists him as a guard-forward, not a dedicated two. That makes it a projection from the outside, not a verdict Miami has rendered on its own rotation.

Bam's Math, Not Fact

Berson also reported Bam Adebayo saying he could have scored 100 points, and backed the claim. The number actually on record is 83, set March 10 against Washington, a Heat franchise mark that passed LeBron James's 61 and still trails only Wilt Chamberlain's 100. Adebayo's own math is not a new tally. Eighty-three stands on its own without rounding up.

Bottom Line

Miami's record reads 0-0. Every storyline the beat is chasing right now, Klay's fit, Bam's ceiling, tonight's matchup, gets settled on the floor, not in a headline. The Heat get their answer tonight against New Orleans.

Is Klay Thompson Miami's starting shooting guard?

That's not settled yet. Outlets have argued for it this week, but Thompson is 36, has no regular-season minutes logged, and the roster lists him as a guard-forward, not a dedicated two.

Did Bam Adebayo ever score 100 points for the Heat?

No. His single-game franchise record is 83 points, set March 10, 2026, against Washington, which passed LeBron James's 61 and still trails only Wilt Chamberlain's 100.
