Two Knicks Walk Into Camp Already Banged Up

New York's camp now has two players working back from injuries, not one, with Mohamed Diawara added alongside Jalen Brunson on the same return timeline. Nothing else moved for the Knicks in the last day; the only new item on the wire concerned a player who isn't on this roster.

Two Down Already

Jalen Brunson started camp on the injury list with a wrist, arm and left-side issue, expected back by October 1. Now Mohamed Diawara joins him, out with a finger and arm problem on the same timeline. Neither is expected to miss real time, but camp opens with two bodies already being managed instead of zero.

Four Before It Counts

The preseason runs four games: October 5 at the 76ers, October 8 against the Wizards at home, October 12 against the Timberwolves, and October 13 at the Raptors. The games that count begin October 20, at home against Philadelphia, on NBC and Peacock.

Milicic's Open Question

Igor Milicic Jr. reportedly agreed to an Exhibit 10 deal, as first reported by Karol Wasiek — the kind of contract built for camp bodies and G League assignments, not a roster spot. Whether the 6-foot-10 forward sticks past the cuts is still unresolved.

The Number

Last season closed with Brunson averaging 37.7 points across three straight 30-point games, a gear above his year-long numbers. That stretch is history now, but it's the standard camp will measure him against once his wrist clears.

Bottom Line

New York's roster hasn't changed beyond Milicic's camp deal. The only real question left is how clean both injury cases look once the preseason actually starts.

Is Jalen Brunson healthy for training camp?

No. Brunson is dealing with a wrist, arm and left-side issue and isn't expected back until around October 1.

When do the Knicks play their first game of the 2026-27 season?

New York opens the regular season October 20 at home against Philadelphia, broadcast on NBC and Peacock.
