The Only Rumor That Changes Denver's Math Is Jokic's

Most of what's circulating around the Nuggets this week is roster churn at the edges; the one report that would actually reshape anything still has no terms attached.

Denver's rumor sheet is mostly departures - Lonnie Walker IV waived, KJ Simpson reportedly bound for Galatasaray - moves that don't touch a payroll already well past the league's apron math. The one report with real weight, Nikola Jokic telling Bennett Durando on September 28 that he plans to sign an extension, is still just a quote without a number next to it.

What actually moved

Lonnie Walker IV left the Nuggets October 13, a transaction Hoops Rumors had flagged a day earlier as a waiver, rated 45 percent confidence and now confirmed. KJ Simpson, off the roster since Ryan Nembhard's two-way signing October 1, is reported by Semih Tuna to be headed to Galatasaray - 50 percent confidence, still open. Neither touches the figure that actually constrains Denver.

The number that doesn't move

Denver's payroll sits at $221.1 million after Walker's exit, the same number as before it, still over that $209.0 million threshold. Walker's $3.3 million this season doesn't come off a team already built around five contracts well above it. Waiving a bench guard doesn't buy flexibility when the problem sits at the top of the sheet, not the bottom.

Jokic's comment outweighs the churn

On September 28, Jokic told Bennett Durando he plans to sign an extension: "I'm going to sign next year." Hoops Rumors logs that report at 33 percent confidence, open, with no terms or timeline attached. It's the one line here that would actually move Denver's math, and the one still waiting on specifics.

Grading the smaller reports

Marc Stein's September 22 report on a Boopie Miller Exhibit 10 deal carries 55 percent confidence and stays open - a camp contract that wouldn't register against the cap even signed. Paul Garcia's September 21 roster-moves report rates highest at 75 percent but bundles four other teams with little Denver detail. Measured against a roster already over the apron, both are noise next to Jokic's.

Is Lonnie Walker IV still on the Nuggets roster?

No. Hoops Rumors reported Denver waived him October 12, and the departure was confirmed October 13.

Has Nikola Jokic signed a contract extension?

Not yet. He told Bennett Durando on September 28 that he plans to sign next year, but no terms or timeline have been reported.
