Strawther's MRI Didn't Create Denver's Bench Problem. It Exposed It

The beat writers chasing Strawther's leg, Brazile's minutes and Braun's workload are really describing one shortage: too many wings, too few minutes, now tighter by one injury.

Denver's local coverage this week has split into bench math and extension noise, and neither storyline holds up exactly as framed. The team's own facts back parts of each argument and quietly undercut others.

What does Strawther's leg actually cost?

Hoops Rumors' Luke Adams reported that Julian Strawther will undergo an MRI after injuring his leg, and Mile High Sports' Ryan Blackburn wrote that Denver still has questions as a result. Nugg Love's David Decker framed it harder, saying bench scoring faces a real test if Strawther misses time. Denver's own estimate has him back tonight against the Lakers, same as DeRozan, which softens the direst version of that worry without erasing the smaller one: a preseason bench already missing its DeRozan can't easily absorb a second absence, whoever it is.

Who actually loses minutes?

Decker has argued that a failed bench experiment strengthens Alpha Diallo's rotation case, and separately that Trevon Brazile is forcing his way into the conversation — a claim Wednesday's loss at the Clippers backs up, with Brazile scoring 22 points in reserve minutes and Cam Whitmore adding 17. Decker has also suggested Denver may need to cut Christian Braun's workload as better options emerge, and Ben Handler argued non-Jokic production needs to rise for Denver to have a real chance. The record on Braun specifically cuts the other way: he played 31.8 minutes and scored 12.0 points over 44 games last season when healthy, numbers that don't obviously demand a demotion before the games count.

The rumor that isn't one

Decker urged fans to take Jokic at his word and ignore exit rumors, and the only quote on record agrees with him. Jokic told reporters September 28 that he intends to sign an extension — "I'm going to sign next year" — with no terms, no timeline, and no contrary report since. The beat isn't actually debating whether Jokic leaves. It's debating when he signs, a calmer argument than the headline suggests.

Will Julian Strawther play against the Lakers tonight?

Denver's current estimate has Strawther, who is day-to-day with a left knee and leg issue, returning tonight, even as Hoops Rumors reported he is undergoing an MRI.

Is Nikola Jokic planning to leave Denver?

No reported source says that. Jokic told reporters on September 28 that he intends to sign an extension, with no terms or timeline announced since.
