Ighodaro deal reported. Hoops Rumors reported Sunday that the Suns and Ighodaro agreed to a three-year, $29 million extension. Arizona Sports and azfamily carried the same report. Duane Rankin had earlier reported the two sides were discussing a deal. No official announcement is in hand.

What he gives them. Ighodaro played all 82 games last season, averaging 22.1 minutes, 6.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Modest scoring, steady availability. The wrinkle is a hip and torso issue listed October 17, with an estimated return of Wednesday.

Three more roster exits. John Gambadoro reported Saturday that the Suns waived Haywood Highsmith. Kennedy Chandler and Phillip Wheeler also left the roster Sunday. Phoenix has spent the weekend trimming depth, and the wing rotation looks leaner for it.

Kennard's knee. Luke Kennard has carried a left knee and leg tag since October 15, with an estimated return of Wednesday. He scored 20 when the Suns beat the Spurs 102-98 on October 10. Shooting is the thing this roster cannot afford to lose.

Center room stays thin. Mark Williams remains out with a shoulder issue, with an estimated return of February 3, 2027. That leaves Ighodaro, Duop Reath, 30, and Khaman Maluach, 20, to cover the middle. The extension reads as a bet that Ighodaro holds the job.

Cold finish to preseason. Phoenix lost its last two preseason games, 123-103 at San Antonio and 119-116 to Utah. Devin Booker, who scored 26.1 a game across 64 appearances last season, was cleared October 16. The stars are healthy. The supporting cast is the question.

On deck The Suns open the regular season Wednesday, October 21, at the Trail Blazers, then host the Warriors on October 24. The open question is whether Ighodaro and Kennard are both on the floor Wednesday.
